Visionics Corp., a worldwide developer of facial recognition technology, announces that, through several contract awards to partner system integrators from the General Services Administration (GSA), its FaceIt(r) technology is well positioned to be adopted within the GSA’s federal government-wide Smart Access Common ID program. Technology requirements for the smart card include an electronically generated photograph for visual identification, a biometric reference template for use in logical and physical access control to be stored in the chip and digital certificates for use in electronic transactions.
“FaceIt is an enabling technology with mass appeal that has been adopted already by many federal agencies for a range of applications and pilot programs,” says Joseph J. Atick, president and CEO of Visionics. “Our portfolio of products includes OEM level software modules as well as off-the-shelf finished solutions available through our partner network. We are pleased to provide core biometric technology that meets the requirements of the GSA Smart Access Common ID Card project,” Atick added. The contracts, worth a maximum value of $1.5 billion over 10 years to all awardees, are designed to establish contract vehicles for use by all U.S. federal agencies to acquire common, interoperable multiapplication smart cards.
