ATLANTA — Video encoding and streaming solutions company Vitec has acquired T-21 Technologies, a provider of OTT streaming media solutions for media operations, broadcasters and content owners worldwide.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Established in 1988, Vitec has been a pioneer in the design and manufacture of hardware and software for IPTV and digital signage, video encoding, decoding, transcoding, recording, conversion and archiving.
Last December, the company announced that the Minnesota Vikings had successfully installed its EZ TV IPTV and digital signage solution for sports venues at its state-of-the-art practice facility in Eagan, Minn. Utilizing the comprehensive features-set of the platform, the staff is able to centrally manage and stream HD, low-latency, in-house video feeds and cable channels, as well as create digital signs for distribution to all displays and menu boards at the facility.
The company states that it has established new industry standards in video quality, bit rate efficiency, and ultra-low latency (ULL) with its internally developed High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) GEN2+ encoding core, the MGW Ace encoder and decoder. The solution provides best-in-class HEVC video quality up to 4:2:2 10-bit, according to an announcement.
Kevin Ancelin, founder and CEO of T-21 Technologies, will join the company as vice president of worldwide broadcast sales.
“The acquisition of T-21 brings Kevin’s 32-year industry experience and knowledge to Vitec as we expand our product and strategy focus on the broadcast market,” states Mark D’Addio, senior vice president, Vitec. “His expertise in product and market development will expedite our new product roadmap and sales efforts for leading broadcasters worldwide.”
