ASHLAND, Va. – VSC Fire & Security, based here, has appointed Mike Meehan as president, effective Jan. 1. John McDonald, who has served as president of VSC since 2001, will become chairman of company.
Meehan currently serves as senior vice president of VSC and manages the district office located in Virginia Beach, Va. He also serves as chairman of the American Fire Sprinkler Association’s (AFSA) 2015- 2016 Board of Directors.
Meehan, who began his career with VSC as a sprinkler fitter trainee in the early 1980s, has more than 35 years of service to the company in the areas of sprinkler system designer, estimating, project management and senior management. He graduated from George Mason University in 1981 and is a NICET Level IV certified engineering technician in water-based systems layout.

McDonald also began his career at VSC as a sprinkler fitter trainee in his early 20s, initially working during summer breaks while attending George Mason University. Under McDonald’s leadership as president and the supportive guidance of recently deceased Board Chairman Martin Giles, VSC has become one of the nation’s leading fire protection and security companies, according to a news release. Annual sales at the company grew from $70 million to more than $140 million during McDonald’s tenure.
VSC Fire & Security was established in 1958. The privately held company staffs more than 900 employees in 14 offices along the East Coast.
