Watch: Chris Christie, Rand Paul Clash Over National Security During Debate

In this video, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul clash over government surveillance during the first Republican primary debate.

CLEVELAND – The spotlight was on 10 presidential hopefuls at the Quicken Loans Arena Thursday as the first GOP primary debate took center stage.

And while much of the attention was focused on Donald Trump, who is currently at the top of the national GOP primary polls, the clash between New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Kentucky Senator Rand Paul was easily the most heated part of the debate.

During the debate, the two men went head-to-head about a National Security Agency (NSA) program that spied on tens of millions of innocent Americans by logging all phone calls they dialed and received.

Paul has been a staunch critic of the program, and argued that it blatantly violates the Fourth Amendment right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.

Christie, on the other hand, stated if America is hit by another terrorist attack, Paul should be called before Congress to answer for his efforts to constrain the NSA’s domestic spying.

Take a look at the video below to watch the heated exchange, which highlighted stark differences in how the rival candidates would govern and their respective understandings of the Constitution.
