DES PLAINES, Ill. — Emergency24 will present a webcast June 2 to explore how family-run alarm contractor businesses can successfully transition leadership from company founders to emerging generations.
Cathy Carroll, founder of Legacy Onward, will moderate the roundtable-style discussion among first and second-generation alarm contractor companies to identify possible perils and how they addressed and overcame the obstacles. Participants will include representatives from Father & Sons Home Services of Naperville, Ill., and others.
“In my experience, there are very few Goldilocks in family businesses. By that I mean, family members in a family business are either underpaid or overpaid, they under perform or over-perform, they favor tradition or they favor innovation,” Carroll explains. “This webinar will explore the polarities and learn how some family businesses managed these tensions successfully in their leadership transitions:”
Topics to be discussed include:
- In your family business, how did you handle under-performers and over-performers during leadership transitions?
- When the rising generation assumed primary leadership responsibilities, how did you manage the tension between tradition (honoring the past) and innovation (repositioning for the future)?
- A common question in the family business space is, “Is fair, equal and is equal, fair?” In your ownership transition, did you have agreement or differences of opinion within the rising generation about who would become an owner and who didn’t? Based on that, how did you structure your ownership transition to the rising generation?
- How about the tension between me and we? What did you do when the needs of one person were in conflict with the needs of the family?
The webcast will be held June 2 at 1 p.m. (CDT). To register, go here.
