Polaroid Corp. of Cambridge, Mass., announces that its Identification Systems Business Unit will incorporate the latest FaceIt(r) technology, a facial recognition component of the second-generation ID system, in the West Virginia driver’s license program. The second-generation facial recognition software has been implemented by Polaroid and developed by Visionics Corp. of Jersey City, N.J.
In March 1998, West Virginia became the first state in the United States to utilize facial recognition software from Polaroid to verify the identities of drivers whose licenses came up for reissue. The second-generation software adds the capability to quickly compare any photograph of a person to the more than 2 million images in the state’s driver’s license database and find similar faces.
