OAKLAND, Calif. – A Whole Foods grocery store in Northern California has fired the security it used to patrol the facility after a security guard injured a shopper during a confrontation,
An Admiral Security Services guard has been accused of slamming a man in the store against concrete pillars, choking him and then tossing the bleeding shopper out the store on Sept. 3, San Francisco Gate reports.
A Whole Foods spokesperson said the guard had intervened when the customer made physical contact with an employee in the store.
When police arrived at the scene, the victim was unconscious with blood pooling from his mouth. The man was taken to the hospital where he was in stable conditions, according to authorities.
Police are investigating what led to the incident. Names of the people involved have not been released and no arrests have been made.
The guard was removed from the store before the entire company was discharged.
Whole Foods has hired A.G.S. Private Security to monitor the property.
