The facial recognition system installed in Tampa’s Ybor
City that is meant to scan crowds and find criminals and
other wanted persons has not led to a single arrest. The
system, installed nearly a year ago, has yielded many false
positives, but has yet to correctly identify a single
wanted individual. Despite this, Tampa Police Department
officials say they will continue to recommend use of the
system to the city council during a coming review.
