Images: CAA Winter Conference Exhibit Showcases Latest Security Wares

The California Alarm Association winter convention kicks off each year with a Gala Opening Exhibits & Reception, featuring vendors from across the security ecosystem.

SAN FRANCISCO — The ability for industry associations to host conventions, various events and meetings relies heavily on the support from sponsors and exhibiting vendors that showcase their latest wares for an audience of installing security contractors.

The California Alarm Association’s winter convention, held here annually, is a prime example of this support. Each year the convention officially kicks off with a Gala Opening Exhibits & Reception, during which attendees enjoy hors d’oeuvres and beverages while mingling and networking with exhibitors.

Held at the Fairmont hotel, the event (Dec. 5-8) marked CAA’s 26th anniversary and offered attendees a series of educational sessions, the annual executive symposium, networking activities and more.

The convention included a new “One-on-One” panel format with industry leaders discussing trends and disruptors that are affecting the electronic security industry. The line-up included Tim Whall with SSI Senior Editor Rodney Bosch; Ralph Sevinor, president of Wayne Alarm Systems, with Kirk MacDowell of MacGuard Security Advisors; and, Will Wise, group vice president of the security events portfolio at Reed Exhibitions, with Lessing Gold of MSK.

A convention highlight each year is the bestowing of the CAA George A. Weinstock Award, held during a formal dinner and ceremony. The award recognizes lifetime achievement and service to the security industry. This year’s honoree was Mark Sepulveda of Monrovia, Calif.-based USA Alarm Systems.

In 2019, CAA will host its summer convention in Palm Springs, May 15-18, and the winter convention will return Dec. 4-7.
