Fiber Transceiver Line Extends Data Transmission up to 28 miles

The IFS DE7200 Series 2 Port Ethernet Fiber Optic Transceiver by GE Security of Bradenton, Fla., can transmit 10Mps or 100Mbps Ethernet data over multimode or single-mode optical fiber ports or electrical.  According to GE, there will initially be five models in the series to choose from, each offering a different multimode and single-mode optical ports.

The DE7200 Series Ethernet Transceiver can be used for point-to-point transmission in systems that use the Ethernet protocol. This can be within an existing network or in a situation where no existing Ethernet cable infrastructure exists.  According to the company, sending Ethernet over fiber with this device enables an active transmission range of to nearly 28 miles compared to Cat-5 cable with an effective transmission range of 300 feet per segment.
