Notification Devices Contain Shorting Contacts for Testing

The Z Series line of notification devices by Cooper Wheelock of Long Branch, N.J., are designed to enable installers to do a prewire and test the cables before the wall materials are installed. The Z line, which includes strobes, horns and combination horn/strobes, are compatible with UL-Listed fire alarm panels and panels listed with Cooper Wheelock .
At the heart of the new Z line is a unique device base that contains a set of shorting contacts that allow circuit testing. When an appliance is installed, the contacts permanently open up, supporting code requirements for supervision. This enables the activation of a supervisory condition when a notification device is removed from its base.  According to Cooper Wheelock, this feature is well suited for vandal-prone installations.
