Farpointe Data is part of DORMA Group and has always been innovative in its design approach to challenging access control applications and communication networks to enable them. While I wouldn’t be described as a “tree hugger” by anyone who knows me, I appreciate the contribution that LEED-certified designs lend to lower energy costs and carbon footprint. These requirements are more evident today in RFQs from both government and private industry opportunities. Farpointe’s fleaPower technology essentially reduces card reader (conventional or smart card) power consumption by as much as 50%. While this may not seem earthshaking it becomes significant when the scale of readers increases and, more importantly, longer battery backup at a lower cost factor. As a reader is drawing power 24/7/365, reducing its power consumption to a “sip” vs. a “gulp,” is a measureable factor in security design work and RFP responses.
