Dolph’s Pick: Honeywell Smoke/CO Detector

Someday in the not-so-distant future we will have systems with only one sensor that detects all known threats. Presently, one trend we are seeing is the consolidation of similar detection technologies into one device.

One such device is the 5800COM-BO wireless smoke/carbon monoxide (CO) detector from Honeywell. Using four sensor elements, this multidetection device utilizes a photoelectric chamber while an electrochemical sensor monitors the CO byproduct produced by slow smoldering fires.

The detector also features infrared (IR) flames sensing that measures ambient light levels and flame signatures, while thermal detection monitors temperature. Audible alarm output has a built-in 86dB piezo sounder and a 1-inch, multilanguage voice speaker. security.honeywell.com
