Commercial Security Integrators Earn More Money Than Resi Counterparts — 2018 SSI Salary Study

The 2018 SSI Wage & Salary Study reveals the average salaries for technicians, sales and executive management for residential and commercial security integrators.

Integration firms and alarm dealers that specialize in commercial business tend to pay higher, on average 10% more according to data from the 2018 SSI Wage & Salary Study.

This comprehensive study of security industry wages and salaries was conducted in February 2018 with 217 responses recorded.

Nationally, executives and general managers average more than $40,000 annually than the next highest paid position (project managers). Service technicians earn slightly more on an hourly basis than installation techs, while entry-level salespeople rising to sales managers almost double their salaries.

Looking to make the most money possible? Outside of executive and project manager positions, IT-based positions have the highest average salaries. This field can end up being especially lucrative considering the rising threat of cyber attacks and need for more skilled workers in this area.

When looking at wages for specific positions between residential security integrators and commercial ones, the largest pay discrepancy comes at the position of in-house network/IT manager. Employees of commercial security integrators make $72,000 a year while their residential counterparts make $53,382, or 35% less.

On the sales side, commercial salespeople with more than two years of experience make $56,327, 29% more than the $43,587 made by those working for residential integrators.

Service technicians working for residential security integrators make $21.89/hr, or 15% less than the $25.13/hr made by their commercial counterparts.
