Development Tool Designed to Put Fingerprint on Biometric Products

HOUSTON— Texas Instruments (TI) says it is introducing a development tool that will allow manufacturers and integrators to design fingerprint authentication products without having to build a prototype device. Officials say the goal of its digital signal processor (DSP)-based Fingerprint Authentication Development Tool (FADT) is to reduce the cost of fingerprint access devices and bring new innovation to the field.

“Most have been focused on government and law enforcement. We want to bridge the gap and touch the commercial and residential markets, and that can only happen with low-cost development and systems,” says Ram Sathappan, the biometrics solutions manager for TI’s Digital Signal Processing Group.
