ELK Products: Integrated Security Makes the Smart Home Even Smarter

Integrations can expand the capabilities and usefulness of a residential security system. Here's how.
Published: November 5, 2019

An integrated security system does more than report undesirable conditions; it takes action. If an alarm is triggered, turn on every light! Better yet, deter burglars using outdoor sensors to activate a lighting sequence paired with voice alerts.

If the system senses a water leak, automatically shut the water off before extensive damage occurs. With vacation mode, deter burglars using automated lighting scenes at varying times for a “lived-in” look.

Integrated security also provides energy management opportunities. Motion sensors, which provide increased security within the home, also serve as occupancy detectors to automate lights.

System arm state (away or vacation) indicates when the home is unoccupied, allowing activation of energy-saving thermostat setbacks, lighting changes, water heater shutoff and more. Energy savings provide homeowners with a return on their system investment.
