ORCHID, Fla.—Bucking the nationwide trend, the Orchid Town Council unanimously voted to adopt a new false alarm ordinance that is more lenient than the Indian County ordinance in which the town resides.
The council wanted an ordinance that is suited for its residents, many of whom are gone for part of the year. The Orchid ordinance allows residents to have up to three false alarms within a year before a warning is issued. If another alarm occurs after the warning, a fine or a service charge may be issued. However, there is no set dollar amount for fees in the law.
