Greyfox and On-Q Consolidating as 1 Company: On-Q/Legrand

Published: March 31, 2005

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. — Two companies that specialize in networking homes are networking with each other, as the parent company of Greyfox has purchased On-Q Technologies.

Legrand North America has acquired On-Q for terms that have not been disclosed. Legrand says it will bring together On-Q with its Greyfox business unit to form a new company that will be known as On-Q/Legrand.

Greyfox and On-Q both specialize in developing and marketing systems for shared broadband access, multiroom audio and video distribution and home controls including security. Greyfox was one of the earliest companies to enter the home networking field, forming in 1994, while On-Q came into existence in 1999. On-Q Vice President of Marketing Dave Hanchette says customers of both companies will see little change.

“It’s business as usual for the customers. You order the same parts and talk to the same people. We’re trying to make as few moves that impact the customers as possible,” says Hanchette, who nonetheless says people should expect a lot of On-Q/Greyfox product synergy. “You’re going to see in a short window of time that Greyfox customers will be able to buy On-Q speakers and On-Q customers will be able to install Greyfox intercom systems and cameras.”
