Jefferson County, Ky., Judge Proposes False Alarm Fines

Published: July 31, 2001

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—According to an article in The Courier-Journal, Jefferson County, Ky., Judge-Executive Rebecca Jackson recently proposed a plan to reduce the false alarms in the area. According to the article, false alarms made up 99 percent of the approximate 18,000 security system calls answered by Jefferson County police in 2000.

Under Jackson’s plan, police runs to false alarms would cost a homeowner $25 and a business owner $100, a fine the police chief expects would get people’s attention. However, the fee received a mixed response from professional alarm installers in the county. Source: The Courier-Journal
