Diebold Makes Push to Prevent False Alarms
Security provider Diebold Inc. says it is implementing new procedures to eliminate the number of false alarms associated with burglary signals handled by its Event Monitoring Center (EMC).
Diebold says its enhanced alarm verification system utilizes a series of checks to determine the validity of an alarm signal. These checks can be phone calls to predetermined contacts, cross zoning, audio or visual on-site monitoring, or a combination of methods.

Delta Barrier Founder Honored by Los Angeles Leaders
The County of Los Angeles has honored Harry Dickinson, founder and president of perimeter barrier manufacturer Delta Scientific, for his contributions to the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
Dickinson received a commendation for the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors as part of a Jan. 20 reception at Lancaster, Calif.’s Antelope Valley College.

Central Station Software-Maker Chats With Customers on New Web Site
Central station software developer Security Information Systems Inc. (SIS) has launched a new Web site that includes the ability for customers to chat online with a support representative.
The site, at www.securitysoftware.com, has a customer support portal with the chat option and a user forum. SIS is the manufacturer of the Alarm Center® software program for security alarm dispatching and management.

Appeals Court Rules in Favor of Sensormatic in Patent Suit
A federal appeals court has let stand a previous jury decision that found Universal Surveillance Systems Inc. infringed on a patent by Tyco Fire and Security’s Sensormatic Electronics Corp. Without comment, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit upheld on Jan. 26 a June 2003 verdict that found that Universal’s UNIPRO anti-theft tag infringed on Sensormatic’s patent for its Supertag® anti-theft product.
Under the previous decision, Universal has paid damages to Tyco and can no longer sell the UNIPRO product.
