First Responders to Receive Free Home Security Systems From State Farm, Canary

The companies have paired up for a ‘Protect the Protectors’ campaign. More than 400 home-monitoring devices were donated to Allentown, Pa.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. —  First responders do their part to protect their communities in case of emergency. State Farm Insurance and home security startup Canary are doing their part to return the favor.

The two companies donated more than 400 home security systems to first responders here on Monday, marking the first stop on State Farm and Canary’s “Protect the Protectors” campaign. The Canary home-monitoring devices will protect the police, fire and EMS professionals’ homes against intrusion and other accidents.

“Every day thousands of Americans wake up and go to work to protect the people in their community,” said Jon Troutman, Canary co-founder and chief creative officer. “They dedicate their lives to keeping us safe, and we wanted to do something to help keep their homes and families safe while they’re on the job.”

Allentown Fire Chief Lee Laubach and Police Chief Keith Morris accepted the donations on Monday.

“We’re honored to work with State Farm and Canary to provide home monitoring devices to our first responders,” Laubach said. “These brave men and women don’t just protect our communities; they’re a part of them too. This program represents a unique opportunity for us to give back to them.”

The program is beginning this year and will continue throughout 2016.

State Farm has a history of supporting first responders. The State Farm Arson Dog Program trains canines for law enforcement and firefighters in 44 states, 3 Canadian provinces and Washington, D.C.

“State Farm has close ties to first responders, and we’re excited to look for new opportunities to show thanks for those who serve their community,” said Heather Paul, State Farm public affairs specialist. “A program like this helps everyone and gives State Farm agents a chance to show their support for these remarkable men and women.”
