Home Security Telemarketers Settle No-Call Violation Lawsuit

ISI Alarms and JVersacio Corp., will pay a combined total of $17,500 for violating Missouri’s no-call and telemarketing laws.

JEFFERSON, Mo. – The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has settled a lawsuit against two alarm companies that violated the state’s no-call and telemarketing laws.

Attorney General Chris Koster filed lawsuits against ISI Alarms NC of North Carolina and JVersacio Corp, and its owner Joseph Versacio of Florida, in March after hundreds of consumers complained of receiving unwanted telemarketing calls attempting to sell home security products, OzarksFirst.com reports.

To solicit customers, ISI Alarm telemarketers claimed the FBI reported break-ins and burglaries in the consumers’ neighborhoods, according to Koster.

This isn’t the first time ISI Alarms has been in hot water for unsolicited calls. Last October, North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper filed a similar lawsuit against ISI Alarms claiming that the firm made illegal robocalls to numbers listed on the Do Not Call Registry.

Meanwhile, JVersacio Corp., which operated as Central Security, made thousands of automated robocalls to numbers on Missouri’s No-Call Registry to sell its security services. Residents say they continued to receive calls even after following instructions from removing themselves from further calls by pressing a specific number.

ISI Alarms has agreed to pay the state $10,000, while JVersacio will pay $7,500 in civil penalties. If either company violates the terms of their agreements, the court may impose penalties up to $100,000 apiece.
