Man Attempting to Sell Home Security Services Shoots, Kills San Antonio Homeowner

San Antonio police say Richard Luis Amezquita, 35, shot 53-year-old Kerry O’Toole in the chest. Amezquita is charged with murder.

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A man trying to solicit home security services at a San Antonio house shot and killed the homeowner on Saturday, according to San Antonio police.

The Houston Chronicle reports Richard Luis Amezquita, 35, was arrested for the murder of 53-year-old Kerry O’Toole. Police say an argument occurred between the two before Amezquita allegedly went back to his car and fired several shots at the victim, according to SAPD spokesman Douglas Greene. One of the shots fatally struck O’Toole in the chest.

Investigators say the gunman left the scene and drove to a nearby recreation center, where he called police. That’s where Amezquita was arrested.

A birthday party for a 3-year-old was taking place at the recreational center when the gunman arrived. KSAT 12 reports guests at the birthday party could hear the shots, which took place a block away.

Amezquita was still armed when he walked into the clubhouse. “We didn’t know he had a gun until the police officers arrived,” said Joseph Flores, a guest at the birthday party.
