NYPD’s New Crime Stoppers Van Displays Video Surveillance Footage of Suspects

The New York Police Department’s new Crime Stoppers van has video screens built into the sides of it to alert citizens of crimes in the area.

NEW YORK – The New York Police Department has unveiled a new high-tech tool to help combat crime in the city.

The department’s new Crime Stoppers van is equipped with two large, external video monitors that can display photos and videos on loop at or near crime scenes. The vehicle also has speakers that can blast audio as the van drives through neighborhoods where a crime was committed, CBS New York reports.

The van will allow police to put out videos and pictures within one or two hours of receiving them, DNA Info reports.

The $90,000 van, which was donated by the New York City Police Foundation, is part of a new initiative called “Your City. Your Call.”

“This van will show up at significant crime scenes and working with us help to push out information very quickly on crime information that is available at that time to the public,” Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said during a press conference.
