Exclusive Interviews: Protection 1 Opens Up About Integration Logistics Acquisition

CHICAGO — Protection 1 announces today the acquisition of Newark, Del.-based Integration Logistics, adding new integrated systems capabilities to its commercial and national account security offerings.

Integration Logistics, which is certified in information technology and voice/telephony services, is known for its highly integrated solutions that include services beyond traditional access control, video surveillance and fire/life-safety systems, according to a press release.

Integration Logistics co-founders Ken Schafenberg and John Smolinski will lead the new Integrated Systems Division at Protection 1, bringing all 40 of their employees with them.

“We are thrilled to be joining the Protection 1 team,” says Schafenberg, who will take on the role of vice president of integrated systems with Protection 1. “With their dedication to the customer experience and their national footprint, we look forward to the growing opportunities for our customers, as well as expanding the current offering Protection 1 has for its national account clients.”

The deal follows Protection 1’s acquisition of Wilmington, N.C.-based Camtronic Security Integration, which delivered the company a specialized focus in high-end video solutions geared toward national account clients, including prominent retailers and large video projects with tens of thousands of networked cameras. Camtronic clients are now able to take advantage of a full line of security services, including intrusion and fire, among others.

“The additions of Camtronic and Integration Logistics allow us to give our customers a more robust customer experience in terms of products and services, while growing our employee base with subject matter experts in each of our offerings,” says Protection 1 CEO Tim Whall. “We’ve seen triple-digit growth over the past two years in our national account division. I believe this growth is due to several factors, one of which is the high level of dissatisfaction with customer service we hear of from national account clients in the marketplace. That dissatisfaction has enabled our approach to stand out as truly differentiated.”

In 2011, Protection 1 says it introduced industry firsts such as Maintenance Rewards, product inventory services, benchmarking and dashboards. The company’s infrastructure is centered on a philosophy of close, clear and transparent communication across the company and with their clients, according to the release.

“Integrated and highly complex network-based solutions seemed to come up more and more with our client base,” says Whall. “We wanted to make sure that we were addressing these needs by having the expertise within the company. Ken, John and their entire employee base have very broad and deep IT experience, coupled with a like-minded approach to treating the customer.”

In striking a deal with P1, Schafenberg explains the Integration Logistics team was looking for growth opportunities while ensuring their clients would continue to receive a high level of customer care.

“We know we found that in Protection 1 and continue to be impressed, not only in how they serve their clients, but in how they are managing the integration of our company — seamlessly and without customer interruption.”
