Sebastian, Fla., Ends Grace Period

SEBASTIAN, Fla.—April 3, 2000, marked the end of the 120-day grace period, which began after Sebastian’s noise ordinance was amended to include both fines and alarm permits. Fines of $50 will now be levied after four false alarms, with the fifth annual false alarm ratcheting the fine up to $250. Nonpermit holders will be fined $50 for each false alarm responded to. At the end of the grace period, only 270 of 789 permit holders had bothered to obtain new permits.
