Editor-in-Chief Scott Goldfine sums up select highlights from his busy show schedule.

LAS VEGAS — ISC West was a resounding success with an estimated 28,000 participants and attendees and exhibitors alike being uniformly pleased. Here are some quick takes, in chronological order, from Security Sales & Integration Editor-in-Chief Scott Goldfine’s dozens of meetings. Be sure to check for a multitude of other reports, photos, videos and podcasts from Goldfine and other staff members.

3xLogic ― Got the rundown from Senior Director of Marketing Wendi Burke, who said the recent acquisition of access control business infinias is going exceedingly well. She added that the company continues to tweak its analytics software platform to deliver evermore RMR opportunities for dealers/integrators.

Electronic Security Technology Summit (ESTS) ― Over a lunch with Advisory Summit Providers CEO & Managing Partner Alex Quirin, discussed the event’s upcoming third installment Oct. 7-9 at The Broadmoore in Colorado Springs, Colo. SSI is the conference’s exclusive media partner and Quirin said the 2015 edition is shaping up to be the strongest one yet.

Resolution Products ― Vice President of Marketing Dave Mayne talked about the company’s great success the past few years selling intrusion panel translators (enabling dealer takeovers), sensors and cellular IGM. However, the really hot item is the firm’s new Helix panel, which can be installed virtually anywhere and communicates with smartphones via Bluetooth and Internet. The modem-like device has no GUI and when combined with SecureNet Technologies services is positioned to facilitate Internet of Things (IoT)-type connectivity and control.

Advanced Technology Video (ATV) ― President & CEO James Tomcheck and Vice President Sales & Marketing Keith Shaver stopped by SSI‘s booth to discuss how the company is looking to further entrench itself in the video surveillance marketplace. The company is particularly notable for its variety, value and specialty cameras, such as the height-strip covert security camera with unique vertical shift lever to adjust camera tilt angle and swivel gimbal for pan angle.

Vivotek ― Met with Marketing Specialist Monica Barragan to check out the video surveillance supplier’s PoE solution IB8367-R, panoramic solutions CC8370-HV and FE8182, AW-GEV-264A-185 Vivocam PoE switch and ND8322P NVR. The company also announced the integration of its cameras to support Stratocast, Genetec’s cloud-based video surveillance service, and upcoming support for its H.265 cameras in Genetec Security Center.

Aiphone ― Vice President of Marketing John Mosebar chatted about the company’s new mobile app designed to serve the campus, parking and transportation markets. He also discussed upgrades to the company’s video intercoms and mentioned how the supplier keeps coming across other applications and markets for its products. Look for Aiphone in an upcoming SSI Bench Test product review.

ONCAM ― A delightful lunch with COO Adrian Marsh from London and Regional President, Americas Jumbi Edulbehram shed light on the 360⁰ camera makers challenges and opportunities. Marsh said he welcomes all the recent competitors in the space since their product still renders the best image. One of the product’s leading applications is installation on cruise ships.

Speco Technologies ― Another enjoyable encounter with President Todd Keller and Vice President of Sales and Marketing TJ Dickson revisited the company’s Handshakes to Hugs relationship-building and training program, which was set up for instruction within its booth. Dickson also demoed Speco’s new VMS, saying the company is evolving from a hardware company, its new HD-TVI products that permit 1080p over coax, and16-Channel plug-and-play NVR with built-in PoE.

Middle Atlantic Products ― Public Relations Manager Rebecca Villareale showed the Select Series of value-priced UPS products featuring compact form factors and IP capability. She also offered what MAP defines as the industry’s first 100% digital high definition LCD rackmount consoles, designed to ensure data remains intact between source and display with no compatibility issues and no need for specialty cabling or accessories.

AES Corp. ― This longtime industry communications specialist has a new president and COO, Bill Kieckhafer, as it celebrates its 40th year while looking to put a fresh spin on its business. AES provides full data modules for fire subscribers, UL 864 Listed for primary standalone alarm communication from fire subscriber, drop-in full function replacement for phone lines, full alarm signal data and flexible installation options.

Vanderbilt Industries ― This is a company to watch, as Managing Director Joe Grillo (former HID president) explained its strategy to consolidate the highly fragmented systems side of the access control industry. The firm is owned by ACRE LLC, of which Grillo is a partner and also owns access control hardware specialist Mercury Security. In addition, Vanderbilt bought Ingersoll Rand’s Software & Controllers unit as IR’s security business was being spun off into Allegion. Grillo said Vanderbilt is about to close on its $100 million, 300-employee acquisition of Siemens’ Security Products business. The building blocks are falling into place for Vanderbilt.

Phybridge and NVT ― Got up to speed on the biggest hard news story of ISC West 2015, newcomer (to security) Phybridge’s acquisition of well-known industry supplier of video and power transmission solutions Network Video Technologies. After speaking with both Phybridge CEO John Croce and President & CTO Oliver Emmanuel and NVT Vice President Guy Apple, it was abundantly clear that this was an ideal union. Phybridge is a Toronto-based IP telephony company specializing in PoLRE (Power over Long Reach Ethernet) switch technology that will infuse NVT with cutting-edge technology. Meanwhile, Phybridge can leverage the respected NVT name brand to penetrate the security market. Note: Phybridge is encouraging security professionals to “take the EoC challenge” for a chance to win $10,000 if they can find a better enterprise-grade switch than its award-winning CLEER product. Nortek Security & Control ― Having acquired home automation and security systems manufacturer 2GIG Technologies in 2013 and folding its operations into Linear, parent company Nortek announced a name change to Nortek Security & Control this past December, and so ISC West served as its unveiling. Director of Marketing Larry North demonstrated the potential power and convenience of using some of the company’s wide range of controls to tailor a smart-home experience. To draw attention to the device’s simplicity, earlier in the show the manufacturer had a monkey in its booth.

Allegion ― Creative Services Manager Patricia Matthews and Marketing Manager Minu Youngkin presented the access control supplier’s ENGAGE technology, designed to easily connect people, openings and access together, delivering cost-effective intelligence and efficiency to any facility. Schlage NDE Series wireless locks are the first locking platform to use ENGAGE technology. The manufacturer also placed a strong emphasis on promoting the Internet of Things (IoT) and hosted an educational session on the topic.
