SSI Hall Of Fame: 2007

Current Status
Recently retired National Accounts Sales Manager, Bosch Security Systems

Why He’s on the List

  • For more than 30 years has been the face of the supplier side of the associations and a strong advocate for association membership and participation
  • As a Board member, has guided the growth of the California Alarm Association (CAA) conventions in San Francisco and Palm Springs
  • Passionate about the value of association membership for suppliers and dealers, and promotes active participation on the regional, state and national levels
  • He is a well-respected teacher and trainer who has mentored many young, aspiring salespeople in the industry

Most Memorable Moment
“When I was recognized by my industry: in 1989, a roast by the Western Burglar & Fire Alarm Association; in 2001, receiving the George A. Weinstock Lifetime Achievement Award; in 2006, receiving the NBFAA President’s Award; and, without a doubt, in 2007, being selected to SSI’s Hall of Fame.”

How Things Have Changed
“Years ago the membership of trade associations was largely comprised of larger local, regional and national companies. Although there is still too much apathy in our industry when it comes to association membership, we are seeing smaller companies get involved at the regional and national levels. However, there is still much work to do since only about 10 percent of our industry’s dealers participate.”

What the Future Holds
“With city after city searching for ways to reduce operating expenses and increase revenues, ordinances represent one of our biggest challenges today. Individually, a dealer cannot stand up to this challenge. United, with the strength of membership, an association is our public voice at the local, state and national levels. We must grow and support our associations if we are to continue to grow and prosper in our industry.”

Something People Might Not Know
“Challenges inspire me. I am a firm believer of the Lombardi saying, ‘Say I’ll try, not I can’t.’ At 13, I was stricken with polio during the deadly 1949 epidemic. My prognosis was if I lived I would be wheelchair-bound the rest of my life. Paralyzed, I began treatment and rehabilitation. As a result of my desire to ‘try’ and not say ‘I can’t,’ I worked diligently with the doctors and three months later I miraculously walked out of the hospital 100-percent cured.”

Reaction to Being Inducted
“It is, unquestionably, an honor to have been selected for induction into the SSIHall of Fame and associated with such a distinguished group of individuals recognized for their devotion and dedication to our industry. Receiving the call that I was being inducted into the Hall of Fame was, and always will be, one of the most memorable moments in my career.”
