8 Field-Proven Brands Win SSI Security Solutions Awards at ASIS 2017

DALLAS – Security Sales & Integration has announced the winners of its third Security Solutions Awards program during the 63rd ASIS Int’l Annual Seminar and Exhibits. The program, which distinguishes those manufacturers and vendors whose electronic security solutions have been proven in the field to meet security, safety or other organizational needs for end users, named winners in seven categories.

The 2017 Security Solutions Awards winners are:

  • Bosch Security Systems
  • FLIR Systems
  • Genetec
  • HID Global
  • Honeywell
  • Optex
  • Sharp Electronics
  • Shooter Detection Systems

Bosch was also involved in the Genetec entry so the company is a double winner.

“The real test for manufacturers’ products ― especially when dealing in the sometimes life or death realm of security and safety ― is how they truly meet the needs of both the security integrator and their customer,” says SSI Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher Scott Goldfine. “How does a given device or system deliver problem-solution results in the field deployed in real-world scenarios? That is the true litmus test and why SSI founded the Security Solutions Awards. This unique program is an outstanding platform for security product suppliers to showcase their wares and a unique source for integrators to identify project solutions.”

Each submitted solution entrant was judged by a panel of experienced independent security industry professional integrators and consultants. They evaluated not only on the technical merits and ease of installation of the product or technology solution but also the ability of it to help integrators meet project bid, specification or design parameters; satisfy regulatory, compliance or code requirements; and deliver the highest level of system capabilities, features, functionality, user-friendliness, results and client satisfaction across the full range of general, niche and vertical market applications.

All submitted project applications had to be installed or deployed in the past 18 months to be considered for the program. Both winners and other entrants are profiled in SSI’s annual December Technology Issue, and spotlighted online and through other electronic media. Here is a closer look at each winning entry:

Access Control

HID Fargo Connect provided a university’s 29,000 student body with a Cloud-based secure issuance solution that combines web-based design, printers, software and consumables to eliminate the complex, labor-intensive and costly process of encoding, personalizing and issuing ID cards.

Fire/Life Safety

Shooter Detection Systems equipped a Fortune 100 retailer with a Guardian System consisting of a set of sensors and software that effectively combines acoustic algorithms with infrared technology to immediately and accurately provide location of an active shooter, alerting in less than a second without false alerts.

Home Controls

Honeywell’s Lyric Platform is helping a real estate homebuilder drive sales as an easy-to-install, wireless, scalable, connected home solution. It is a freestanding, no-hassle, flexible solution with an intuitive interface and an upscale look for city building and apartment dwellers.

Intrusion Detection

Optex’s iSeries Wireless Photobeam Detectors met the copper theft and damage needs of a large electric power company by protecting the existing perimeter fence and automatic gate systems using pairs of the SL-350QFRi devices housed in photoelectric beam towers. This offered a battery-powered, wireless 350-foot point-to-point perimeter solution that eliminated the need to trench or run cables.

Security Monitoring

Sharp Electronics’ INTELLOS Automated Unmanned Ground Vehicle (A-UGV) met several needs for a global pharmaceutical company.  They included adding another tier of protection to their onion-layer model of intrusion detection; extending air quality monitoring to the exterior; and further supporting security officers.

Specialty Category

Bosch Security Systems, SecureXperts, Genetec and MSA Security combined to deliver public safety weapons and explosive detection/screening support systems to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). The use of a Credentialed High Assurance Video Encryption (CHAVE) cyber-secure IP video solution enables enterprise views by DHS and other government agencies requiring full situational awareness of the environment through the use of a wide selection of Bosch 360⁰ panoramic, fixed and pan/tilt/zoom cameras.

Video Surveillance (Co-Winners)

Bosch Security Systems’ FLEXIDOME IP panoramic 7000 MP cameras provide 360⁰ overview images of the Western Heritage Museum & Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame located at the New Mexico (Hobbs) Junior College. The cameras are equipped with onboard Intelligent Video Analytics to alert staff if a person crosses a virtual line, stepping too close to a display area.

FLIR Systems’ PT-Series of dual-sensor, pan/tilt cameras provided a large electrical utility with thermal and visible-light imaging together in one system. The cameras’ precision pan/tilt mechanism provided accurate pointing control while offering fully programmable scan patterns, radar slew-to-cue and slew-to-alarm functions.
