A Golden Honor for Alarm Industry’s Legal Eagle

SAN FRANCISCO — For more than 40 years, Lessing Gold has had eyes like an eagle when it comes to providing legal counsel for the alarm industry. It may have been appropriate that as Gold was being presented with the California Alarm Association’s (CAA) award for lifetime achievement, the trophy he received was topped by the sculpture of an eagle.

The Dec. 3 presentation of the George A. Weinstock Award to Gold was one of the highlights of the CAA Winter Convention and Western Security Conference, held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in San Francisco from Dec. 2 to 4.

Gold, the chairman of the corporate department at Los Angeles law firm Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp, was hired as legal counsel by the predecessor of the CAA, the Southern California Burglar and Fire Alarm Association, in 1958. His retainer was $25 a month. He has done the legal work for the CAA since and has done the same on the national level for the National Burglar and Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA) for more than 25 years.
