<p>“With complete control of who can access video footage and when, we can be sure our video system is secure,” he says. Another benefit that has come out of this conversion is the establishment of a systemwide user group that shares details about what is working and how to get the most out of the shared system. </p>
<p>During the conversion, they also tapped into Penn State’s networking services group, which provisioned a second network that served as a host for all of the endpoint devices. </p>
<p>C•CURE 9000 is also serving as the backbone for integration with other systems employed by Housing and Food Services and Residence Life, such as the university’s eLiving platform. </p>
<p>This is used for tracking housing contracts and room assignments, which allows staff members to assign and revoke clearances and room assignments directly in the eLiving software instead of having to also access C•CURE 9000. </p>
<p>The same is true of an access management system for staff and nonstudent access to residence halls, such as that of vendors. It now has integrations with C•CURE to streamline and automate processes as well as enable stricter controls.</p>
<h2>Security Solution Continues to Grow Along With Penn State’s Expansion</h2>
<p>Since the initial deployment of the integrated Wi-Q wireless locks and C•CURE 9000 platform integration, Penn State has extended the solution to include residence halls on a sixth campus, Penn State Behrend in Erie. </p>
<p>There, three suite-style student residence buildings are being retrofitted this summer with Wi-Q wireless locks and will also be managed using the C•CURE 9000 platform. </p>
<p>The 195 students living there will be able to use their assigned access cards at the wireless room locks, just as they are used on hardwired doors throughout the campus, as well as to purchase photo-copies and laundry services, and as payment at campus cash registers. </p>
<p>Given the newness of the Wi-Q wireless locks on campus, Penn State plans to include an educational component for students and staff who live and work in these buildings on how to use the new locks. </p>
<p>The Wi-Q / C•CURE 9000 platform solution has also been extended to include Trippe Hall, a new $25 million, 65,000-square-foot residence hall being constructed on the Penn State Behrend campus. The four story, 251-bed building is scheduled to open for student move-in by fall semester 2018. </p>
<p>A portion of Trippe Hall has also been designated for use by students in the Black School of Business, and the building’s common areas are designed and equipped to support entrepreneurial and collaborative student projects. </p>
<p>The structure will include a large community room, study lounges in each wing of the building and a fully equipped community kitchen, all of which will be accessed using Wi-Q wireless locks. </p>
<p>Penn State Housing and Food Services will be making additions to the university’s camera network as well. At Penn State Abington and Penn State Brandywine outside Philadelphia, about 60 Illustra cameras will be installed, extending the scope of its victor/VideoEdge system. </p>
<p>When Penn State opens its doors for fall semester 2018, the total number of Wi-Q wireless locks deployed at the university will be in excess of 1,000. Several other Penn State departments and facilities have plans to migrate to the C•CURE 9000 platform as well.</p>
