Tips for Deploying Smart Video Surveillance Storage Solutions

The increased demand for video surveillance, higher resolution and AI analytics have created a need for high capacity storage solutions. Western Digital’s Brian Mallari breaks down how security integrators can deliver them.

According to Statista, the total amount of data created, captured, copied and consumed globally reached 64.2 zettabytes in 2020, and is expected to increase rapidly. Over the next several years through 2025, global data creation is projected to grow to more than 180 zettabytes.

A good portion of that data will be made up of video. As video surveillance solutions become more in-demand and video analytics become more widespread, higher capacity storage solutions, especially ones designed specifically for video surveillance, will become highly desired.

To get up to speed on the latest in smart video surveillance solutions, SSI recently chatted with Western Digital’s Director of Segment Marketing Brian Mallari.

The need for high-capacity video storage is necessary because certain industries require footage to be saved for a certain amount of time.

“Generally, the higher capacity that you have, the more storage and the more video you can capture. There are a lot of requirements these days whether it is a government requirement or an industry requirement, like in banking where they do require the retention of certain amounts of data, whether it’s 60 or 90 days worth of video.”

Mallari also goes on to discuss the additional benefits of higher capacity storage, how higher resolution impacts storage, how Western Digital’s drives are tailored to surveillance applications and more. Check out the conversation in the video above.
