Best Community Outreach Program: Silent Guard
When quadruple amputee Cindy Mullins inspired a community with her strength and resilience, Silent Guard and Davis HVAC Experts owners Dwight, Barbara and Taylor Sears knew they had to step up.
Teaming up with Florida contractor James Crocker and volunteers from across Kentucky, they set out to build Cindy and her family a fully accessible, single-level home — all at no cost to them.
Incredibly, the 3,000-square-foot, voice-activated smart home was completed in just 10 days. Forty-three team members from Silent Guard and Davis HVAC made the hour-plus journey to Stanford, Ky., donating their time and skills.
On Sept. 18, 2024, DJ and Cindy Mullins received the keys to their new home — one built not just with tools but also with heart, determination and community spirit. It stands as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when people come together for a greater good.
Dwight Sears, president of Silent Guard and Kentucky Ambassador for Global Pay It Forward Day, says, “Winning the SAMMY Award for Best Community Outreach is an incredibly humbling and gratifying experience. This marks our fifth SAMMY Award and second in this category, reflecting the heart of Silent Guard’s mission.
“As the Kentucky Ambassador for Global Pay It Forward Day, I’ve seen firsthand how our team’s dedication to serving others creates meaningful and lasting impact,” he says. “Community outreach isn’t just something we do — it’s woven into our DNA. I’m so proud of the passion, care and consistency our team brings to every effort.
“This award isn’t just for us; it’s for everyone who contributes alongside us. It reminds us that even the smallest acts of kindness can inspire real and lasting change,” says Sears.
