Video of the Day: Thief Caught on Video Surveillance Stealing $100,000 Worth of Pills from Walgreens

Thief crawled into pharmacy after it was closed before leaving through the store’s main exit with the pills.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Thursday’s Video of the Day comes from St. Petersburg, Fla., as a thief in a Walgreens was completely undeterred by the security camera looking right at him as he stole approximately $100,000 worth of pills from the store’s pharmacy.

Fortunately for law enforcement, the clear-as-day picture of the thief is leading to plenty of leads on suspects.

The thief pried open a metal shutter Monday night while the store was open but the pharmacy was closed for an hours. He then crawled across the pharmacy’s counter and started collecting his heist out of the sight of anyone in the store.

“They were painkillers, things like oxy and hydromorphine and Vicodin,” St. Petersburg police spokesperson Yolanda Fernandez told Fox 13 news. “It was pretty clear that he was going for those types of painkillers, the heavy hitters that he can sell on the street.”

The young man stood right in front of the surveillance camera without noticing he was being filmed. Video also showed the thief exit the store with two hand baskets full of the drugs.
