New York City Security Conference & Expo Set for April 27-28

The conference will feature a keynote by Lt. Colonel Robert J. Darling, United States Marine Corps (Ret.), author of “24 Hours Inside the President’s Bunker, 9/11/01: The White House.”

NEW YORK – The latest countermeasures available to deter and mitigate threats, as well as best practices in key security management issues, will be the focus of the ASIS 26th New York City Security Conference & Expo to be held April 27-28 at the Jacob K. Javits Center in New York City.

ASIS Int’l and the ASIS New York City Chapter are co-hosting the event. The conference kicks off with a keynote presentation by Lt. Colonel Robert J. Darling, United States Marine Corps (Ret.), author of “24 Hours Inside the President’s Bunker, 9/11/01: The White House,” at 8 a.m. on April 27. Lt. Col. Darling witnessed firsthand the crisis leadership decisions made on Sept. 11, 2001, from his position in the president’s emergency operations center where he was recruited to provide his military expertise to respond to the terrorist attacks. Lt. Col. Darling will be available for a book signing following the keynote.

The event’s peer-developed education program offers security and law enforcement professionals expert insights, analysis and best practices addressing various threat scenarios and key operational issues. The expo will feature the latest security technology, products and services from more than 130 top providers.

The education program includes sessions on management issues (compliance, implementing the newly released ASIS risk assessment and investigations standards, metrics & communicating value to the c-suite, cloud effects on operations), counterterrorism (sessions developed and sponsored by the ASIS Council on Global Terrorism and Political Instability), and hot-button topics (cybersecurity, social media monitoring tools, active shooter, financial crime). A special session for law enforcement professionals considering a transition into the security field also is scheduled.

Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Professional Certified Investigator (PCI), and Physical Security Professional (PSP) review programs will be held on April 25-26 at the nearby Executive Conference Center.

Registration and housing are open for attendees, exhibitors and members of the media. Expo-only admission is free; full conference registration is $250 for members, and $400 for nonmembers of ASIS; single-day fees also are available.
