ADT Combats ATM Skimming With New Solution

BOCA RATON, Fla. — To protect financial service companies and their clients from ATM skimming, ADT Business solutions has released ADT Anti-Skim ATM Security kit.

A report by the United States Secret Service says that ATM skimming attacks account for $50,000 in losses per incident. Moreover, officials expect the crime to increase throughout the next five years.

“This growing crime poses significant dangers for financial institutions on a daily basis,” ADT Business Solutions Director of Marketing for Financial Services John Pearce says. “To prepare for these security challenges, we developed the ADT Anti-Skim ATM kit. It will help businesses stay ahead of skimming threats and protect customers from potential losses.”

Users can install the FCC-approved kit, which works on all major ATM makes and models, inside the cash machine. The technology triggers into alarm mode during a skimming attempt and generates sound and visual warnings on the control unit. In alarm mode, the kit also emits an omnidirectional magnetic pulse that disrupts the normal operation of the skimming device, rendering its operation useless, according to the company.

“The anti-skimming technology enhances the ability to integrate with layered solutions like video surveillance,” ADT Chief Technology Officer Jay Hauhn says. “It provides law enforcement with more evidence to investigate and prosecute crimes against retail banking facilities across North America.”
