Diebold 3rd-Quarter Profit Jumps

NORTH CANTON, Ohio

Diebold Inc. says its third-quarter net income grew 12 percent on higher revenue across most of its business segments.

Quarterly earnings climbed to $29.5 million, or 45 cents per share, compared with a profit of $26.4 million, or 37 cents per share during the same period last year. Current results include a 2-cent restructuring charge. Revenue grew 17 percent to $730.7 million, from $622.3 million last year.

Security systems revenue grew 17 percent to $196.3 million, financial self-service revenue grew 14 percent to $471 million and election systems revenue grew 55 percent to $61.4 million.

Looking ahead, the company expects 2006 earnings per share of between $1.13 and $1.16, or between $1.75 and $1.80 per share, excluding restructuring charges on revenue growth of 9 percent to 11 percent.
