GE Security has been awarded contracts in China to provide fire alarm, gas release control and integrated security systems for more than 25 metro subway lines.

The projects, totaling more than 430 miles, will be completed in Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Shenyang and Shenzhen. The systems are designed to protect passengers and subway infrastructure, which handles 1.6 million passengers each day and 2.4 million passengers during peak usage times per line.

The announcement was made at the World Metro Rail Summit China, held in Shanghai June 22-24. As an honorary co-organizer of the Summit, GE Security highlighted its subway fire alarm and security solutions and called for building safer and more effective security platforms to meet rising demands in the fast-growing Chinese urban mass transit sector.

“GE Security’s global leadership in fire and security solutions and our experience in serving more than 500 metro stations make us a strong partner for China’s rapid metro growth,” says Lu Yan, general manager of GE Security China.

China’s unique challenges in handling vast numbers of passengers will provide GE Security the opportunity to demonstrate its expertise in the urban transportation industry, Yan says, such as integration capability for long distance fire alarm networks and customized solutions for exchange stations.
