Honeywell, along with Senspex Inc., a provider of surveillance, chemical analysis and detection systems, has completed the installation of an integrated solution at the Alpine Border Patrol Station in Alpine, Texas.

The hub of the new system, WIN-PAK™ Pro 2005 access control software with a VISTA-128FBP intrusion panel, will substantially reduce the time it currently takes for Border Patrol agents to assess a potentially hazardous situation, according to a company statement.

  By integrating all of the station’s security into a single platform, agents now have the ability to scan their entire region using a single screen. Agents can also manipulate any object in the system from the same screen, allowing them to quickly perform risk assessment duty.

  The solution features 23 fixed cameras and five pan/tilt/zoom (p/t/z) cameras, and enables agents to monitor and respond to alarms, as well as manipulate cameras from remote locations.

“This security system has given the Border Patrol the ability to control the level of access that personnel have to sensitive areas, monitor all activity remotely, and respond to situations quicker and more efficiently,” says William Renfro, Senspex senior project engineer. “Overall, the Honeywell system has elevated the Alpine Border Patrol Station to a higher level of security.”

The Alpine Border Patrol Station is one of 12 stations that cover more than 165,000 square miles, encompassing 155 counties in Texas and Oklahoma. Known as the Marfa Sector, it is the largest geographical area of any sector along the Southwest border. Border Patrol agents in the Marfa Sector are responsible for more than 510 miles of river border.
