Mobile Pro Systems, Fluidmesh Protected Millions at Super Bowl XLVIII
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J.— The New Jersey State Police Department deployed 20 Mobile Pro Systems (MPS) mobile surveillance trailers coupled with Fluidmesh Networks technology to protect fans at the MetLife Stadium during Super Bowl XLVIII.
West St. Paul, Minn.-based MPS caught the eye NJSPD after seeing the success the Minneapolis Police Department had with the mobile surveillance units after it deployed the solutions in high crime areas, KSTP.com reports.
New Jersey State Police officials were impressed with MPS’ technology, which combines detection technologies with vision analytics, allowing police to monitor multiple locations remotely.
“We started working with the New Jersey State Police Department last year,” says Steve Dunker, vice president of business development for MPS. “They commanded our video surveillance trailers for special events, emergency management applications and the like to allow them to put surveillance units where they needed those most.”
Featuring 30-foot masts, the MPS mobile trailers, allow almost any type of technology — including surveillance cameras, to be mounted to the tops of the units. The trailers are also powered by generators, solar and wind power, and can also be equipped with microphones, permitting authorities to warn a suspect in the event of a crime.
For the big game, NJSPD deployed 20 MPS Commander 3400 Series video surveillance trailers to monitor the entire Super Bowl campus, which included MetLife Stadium, the Izod Center and the Meadowlands Racetrack.
Because MPS uses wireless mesh networks to wirelessly link mobile units together or as a backhaul to an Internet source, the firm teamed up with Fluidmesh Networks, a provider of wireless backhauling systems for security, industrial, and mission-critical applications.
So, NJSPD installed MPS HopBox-GS portable gateway servers, which were equipped with Fluidmesh FM1200 VOLOs, 2×2 MIMO radios running Prodigy 2.0 proprietary MPLS wireless protocol.
In addition to meeting surveillance needs and being fully mobile, the Fluidmesh-equipped MPS trailers also met a huge need in terms of filling the communication void that a packed MetLife stadium could possibly face, says Dunker.
“Once MetLife stadium gets filled up, their dependence on cellular would have surely become an issue,” he explains. “The communication levels reduce to nothing because everyone uses their cell phones. So you have big events and communication goes down, and that wouldn’t have met their needs for an effective command center for surveillance. So we maximized their communication capabilities by bringing in secondary communication links to reduce dependence on cellular.”
Weeks prior to the big game, the police department implemented the mobile surveillance units with assistance from MPS and local technology providers, to work out any kinks before the Super Bowl.
For NJSPD to use MPS and Fluidmesh technology during one of the most important events of the year showed the reliability of the solutions, says Cosimo Malesci, co-founder and vice president of Fluidmesh.
“It is great to see our technology deployed at the most important sport event in North America where network performance and reliability are a priority,” he says.” This is exactly what our wireless networks are designed and engineered for and we consider ourselves very fortunate to partner with Mobile Pro Systems to make this happen.”
Now that the Super Bowl is over, NJSPD can still benefit from the mobile trailers, Malesci says.
“The added bonus for New Jersey is that these mobile trailers are now available and easily set up for use at other events and security applications wherever and whenever needed,” he says “They don’t have to reinvent the wheel.”
