Rash of Burglaries Hit Hard at California School

FRUITVALE, Calif.

Replacement laptop computers were stolen in a recent
burglary at Melrose Leadership Academy. The laptop
computers were supposed to replace another set of computers
stolen in a previous robbery.

According to The Oakland Tribune, crooks smashed windows and an office door to get to the computers. The laptops were still in their boxes, waiting to be used in a family computer literacy program.

The Melrose school is one of many schools plagued by robberies, but it is also one of the hardest hit. The school has lost violins, computers, food and microscopes. The microscopes had been found by police in a suspected drug house across the street from the school. Over the past year, damages and lost equipment could be as high as $100,000, according to Principal Moyra Contreras.
