Research Firms Test Alarm and VoIP Interoperability

VIENNA, Va.

Cable Television Labs Inc. (CableLabs), a Louisville, Colo.-based non-profit research and development consortium for the security industry, hosted its first “Home Alarm and VoIP Interoperability Test” event week in September. The goal of the event was to verify digital alarm communications formats and downloaders could be successfully passed through a PacketCable-based voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) network.

A group of manufacturer representatives appeared at the event, including those from Bosch Security, Honeywell Security and GE Infrastructure, Security, as well as a representative from ADT and the Alarm Industry Communications Committee (AICC).

The event, which CableLabs says will be a continuously occurring event, was also supported by the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA).
