Security Cameras Roll in Hollywood

LOS ANGELES

The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) plans to install
surveillance cameras on city streets. The plan will begin
on Hollywood Boulevard. In as early as January, five video
cameras will watch over the famous street. City officials
told the Los Angeles Times the cameras will help the
understaffed LAPD deter crime, with the program placing
more cameras in the San Fernando Valley down to South Los
Angeles.

The cameras would be the first police-monitored cameras in the city.

Councilman Eric Garcetti has introduced a motion asking the city to accept a donation to pay for the Hollywood cameras. Two council members have already found money to begin installing cameras in their districts.
