Openpath Prez Talks Mobile Credentials for the Built World

In this Security Speaking podcast, James Segil details the access control startup’s Cloud-based platform, along with channel trends, challenges and opportunities.

Openpath Co-Founders James Segil and Alex Kazerani spent two years of intensive market research and proptech development before launching their Cloud-managed access control startup in 2018.

Based in Los Angeles, the company’s platform focuses on integrated technology to provide frictionless mobile access and scalable Cloud-based solutions that can also be integrated with legacy systems. Leveraging the systems integration channel, Openpath’s platform is retro-fitted into existing properties across a range of market niches, as well as into new construction.

The company’s wares — which can supplement or replace physical badges with a digital badge stored on a smartphone — are striking a chord with stakeholders in the built world. Openpath claims to unlock more than five million doors per month, and last July the company closed a Series C funding round of $36 million (bringing total funding to $63 million to date).

For this episode of SSI’s Security Speaking podcast, Segil joined SSI Senior Editor Rodney Bosch to discuss the company’s platform, along with a range of other topics. You can hear Segil dish on how Openpath maneuvered when pandemic restrictions took hold; challenges and opportunities integrators face in a post-pandemic market; the importance of tying a physical security strategy with a cybersecurity strategy; and more.
