Release of Surveillance Footage Helps Police Make Arrest in String of Chicago Beauty Salon Robberies

Alan Konwinski, 26, has been charged with five counts of burglary after police say he committed multiple robberies of nail and beauty salons in the Chicago area.

CHICAGO — The release of video surveillance footage to the public has led to the arrest of a man accused of a series of burglaries at nail and beauty salons.

The Chicago Tribune reports Northbrook Police arrested Alan Konwinski, 26, on Friday and charged him with five counts of burglary.

Security camera footage of the robberies were released to the public last week and was even featured on SSI’s Surveillance Videos of the Week. A tip to police led them to Konwinski, who was wearing the same sweatshirt at the time as the suspect in the surveillance footage, according to police.

The video footage appeared to show two men responsible for 86 burglaries of beauty salons in the Chicago area. No arrest of the second man has been reported. The robberies date back to August 2015.

“I was overjoyed when we got” Konwinski, Northbrook Commander Mike O’Malley said. “There’s still a lot to go. The investigation of all these cases is still in its infancy.”
