VAR Contract Helps H&H Fire and Security Land Corporate Client

MADISON, Wis. — H&H Fire and Security has signed an agreement with access control provider Matrix Systems to supply value-added reseller (VAR) services in the southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois markets.

Matrix Systems, based in Miamisburg, Ohio, is developing a North American VAR network that sells, installs and services the Frontier Universe and Frontier Web Essentials PRO, its next generation of open-architecture access control systems.

The VAR relationship has already helped earn a major corporate security project for H&H and its parent company H&H Group Holdings Inc., a 150-employee conglomerate of five commercial services divisions that include solar, electrical, plumbing and energy management.

The project site is the Sun Prairie, Wis., campus of QBE North America, a division of the global insurer and reinsurer QBE Insurance Group, based in Sydney, Australia. H&H will convert the site’s existing access control software to Matrix Systems’ Frontier Universe platform and provide customer service alternatives to the existing Mercury Security-based access control system. Work on the project is expected to be completed later this year.

QBE’s three-building campus secures more than 100 doors and is staffed by about 800 workers. Up to now, employees have been issued ID credentials that were produced offsite by a previous security provider. A more expedient and cost-effective badging process will now be conducted via an onsite production station.

H&H is providing system integration, which includes bringing several remote off-campus buildings online via a fully-encrypted IP network and connecting them into the main campus’ support equipment and monitoring/control workstation. The remote building IP connectivity will save tens of thousands of dollars versus purchasing separate servers, building controllers and other equipment, says Mike Ress, vice president, H&H Fire and Security.

“The client originally wanted to cut costs with in-house credential production, but when they compared our entire access control system-related prices, benefits and services with the previous VAR and manufacturer, they decided they could add more system features while simultaneously cutting costs,” he says.

The open architecture platform of Frontier Universe also allows H&H to add cutting-edge peripheral equipment such as a proposed biometric fingerprint scanner to sensitive security areas. H&H also plans to integrate existing campus analog cameras and combine them with IP cameras, DVR/NVR equipment and a video management program, all of which can be integrated into the Frontier Universe software’s open-architecture platform so that security personnel can monitor all operations from a central workstation.

The VAR agreement also includes Matrix Systems’ customer support and training, such as database conversions, software upgrades, system operation training and other product support services available to all VARs and their end-user customers.
