First-Time Offerings Augment Tradition at ISC East

NEW YORK — The introduction of the New Product Showcase (NPS) and new educational opportunities are among the highlights at this year’s International Security Conference (ISC) East, Oct. 28-29 at New York’s Jacob Javits Convention Center.

SECURITY SALES & INTEGRATION (Booth No. 1829) will be among the more than 300 exhibitors on hand for the two-day conference.

As an extension of the Security Industry Association’s (SIA) well-regarded NPS program held annually at ISC West, the showcase’s inaugural ISC East installment will include a display of many of the technologies judged at ISC West, along with a demonstration theater.

Research conducted by ISC East indicates that 95 percent of its attendees come to the show specifically to see new products and services, while a majority of its attendees do not attend any other major security event, Ed Nichols, vice president of the ISC Events, tells SSI.

“Whereas ISC West is viewed as the new product launch for the industry globally, 60 percent of ISC East attendees wait for the new products to come to them,” Nichols says. “The manufacturers have learned that while these products might have been launched seven months earlier, they are still new to the majority of the ISC East attendees, and seeing these products is their number one reason for attending.”

Training opportunities will again abound at the conference. The ISC educational program, IP Institute, will present a wide offering of convergence instruction covering such topics as systems design, technology applications, networking/IP, CCTV/surveillance and management issues.

For the first time PSA Security Network will present “PSA-TEC at ISC East,” featuring two seminars from the integrator cooperative’s venerated educational curriculum. Joined by a four-member expert panel, PSA President and CEO Bill Bozeman will moderate “What You Need to Know About IT to Survive and Thrive in Today’s Rapidly Changing Security Industry,” (Oct. 28) and “How to Immediately Capitalize on RMR With Remote Video and Controlled Access Monitoring,” (Oct. 29).

It is these training and related offerings at ISC East that provide Northeastern installing security contractors with a geographical convenience not offered by the much larger ISC West in Las Vegas, Matthew Ladd, president of Exton, Pa.-based The Protection Bureau, tells SSI.

“By being within my reach I am able to send my technicians and sales people to ISC East, which really helps provide them a better understanding of our industry,” Ladd says. “Being a regional event, it allows us to look at the changes inside our industry within the Northeast.”

Elsewhere on the show floor, co-located will be the all-new Public Security & Safety Expo. Here, government, law enforcement and campus security officials will have the opportunity to see the latest technology and solutions for securing homeland, municipalities and infrastructure.

Finally, an ISC East tradition, the Tri-Association Awards Dinner (Oct. 28) will bring together industry executives for networking, entertainment and to salute the accomplishments of industry peers.

Each year the festivity is presented by SIA, Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA) and National Burglar & Fire Alarm Association (NBFAA), which recently voted to change its name to the Electronic Security Association (ESA). The trio will honor Alan Forman, president of Altronix Corp., with the George R. Lippert Memorial Award, and John Murphy, president of Vector Security, will receive the Triton Award.
