False Alarms Drop 88% in Salt Lake City

SALT LAKE CITY—The Salt Lake City Police Department reports an 88-percent drop in false alarm results from Dec. 1, 2000 to Feb. 28.

During that time frame, a total of 300 false alarms took place, which is a dramatic decrease from the 2,515 false alarms that took place from Dec. 1, 1999 to Feb. 28, 2000. Approximately $132,000 was saved in associated personnel savings during that time, including 2,215 patrol officer hours.

The number of private security guard requests for a police officer are as follows: December, three burglaries; January, 11 user error open doors and 10 burglaries; February, five user error open doors and two burglaries.
