‘Batman’-like Jewelry Store Burglary Fails to Trigger Circle City Alarm System

Four burglars stole $200,000 to $300,000 worth of merchandise from Greenwood, Ind., store.

Michael Dyson looked around to find his Alternative Creations Jewelry Store empty.

The Greenwood, Ind., store Dyson says he and his wife worked 20 years for was robbed of nearly everything on the night of Sept. 9 when two burglars cut a hole in the steel roof of the building and climbed down into the store, “like Batman,” Greenwood Police Department Spokesperson Kortney Burrello told Fox 59 in Indianapolis.

The suspects cut the wire connected to the Circle City Alarm security system, cut an alarm line on the back door and took the security bar on the door and left the building. A couple of hours passed as the two suspects waited to see if the police would arrive as a result of the security system. They didn’t, and the pair returned with two others to ravage the store of its inventory, estimated between $200,000 and $300,000.

“These guys knew what they were doing,” Burrello said.

Some of the stolen goods included jewelry left by customers to be repaired.

“That’s what hurts me most,” Dyson said. “Having to tell my customers that their jewelry, which they left with me, is gone.”

Dyson is waiting to hear back from Circle City Alarm, which assured him an alarm would sound if the wireless signal went out. It didn’t, leaving the burglars undeterred in their heist.

The suspects were captured on surveillance video as they neglected to remove the security DVR storing the security footage. The burglars were seen wearing masks, and the Greenwood Police hopes to release the video to public in search of assistance in identifying the suspects.
