Hikvision Prevails in Patent Infringement Suit
Trover Group and its sister company alleged the global video surveillance products manufacturer infringed a patent relating to detection of changes in image pixilation.
CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. – Hikvision USA said it has been declared the prevailing party in a patent infringement case initiated in the Eastern District of Texas by Trover Group and its sister company, The Security Center.
In 2013, the plaintiffs filed a lawsuit against Hikvision alleging the company’s products infringed U.S. Patent No. 5,751,346. The ‘346’ patent relates generally to video monitoring systems, and in particular systems that store images based on the detection of changes in the pixilation between images.
Believing that the infringement claims had no merit, Hikvision chose to aggressively defend the case, according to a press release. The extensive litigation process included the application of inter partes (“between the parties”) review and victory during the claim construction phase.
As a result, the plaintiffs sought voluntarily dismissal with prejudice of all claims against Hikvision and agreed to never again assert a claim against Hikvision, its customers or end users pertaining to the patent in question. In addition, the costs associated with the case were awarded to Hikvision, the company stated.
A growing number of technology companies have been aggressively defending against patent lawsuits, and this case demonstrates that Hikvision has joined the frontlines of this fight, the company said.
“When faced with baseless litigation claims, Hikvision insists on seeking justice and truth, instead of succumbing to settlement offers. In doing so, Hikvision continues to serve the best interests of its customers and helps preserve the integrity of the video sustry,” Hikvision stated.
